Taverna Kyclades in Astoria, Queens has a nice outdoor dining area and specializes in fresh seafood cooked in Mediterranean/Greek style.
As I have written in my previous posts about Telly’s Taverna and Kabab Cafe, Astoria, Queens has now become my go-to place to eat lunch or dinner before heading out on a trip, given that LaGuardia has now become my preferred airport to travel from.
Astoria has many, many Greek restaurants, some of which are old established restaurants such as Telly’s Taverna, Uncle George’s (Papa Georgi) or Stamatis, and others are newer. One of the “newer” ones is Kyclades, a seafood specialist cafe which I had gotten a few nice recommendations about from Greek friends that really know their food.

Kyclades’ main dining room is tight, but cozy.
If the weather is nice, definitely opt to eat outdoors.

Cold appetizer/dips platter of Skorthalia, Tzatziki and Taramasalata made with thick Greek yogurt.
The appetizers are served with a wonderful herbed semolina bread, hot from the oven.
Can’t have Mezedes without Ouzo.
Wonderful grilled squid (Calamaraja) with sauteed bitter greens (Horta)
The Spinach and Cheese pie (Spanakopita) is also fantastic. If you go during prime tomato season you’ll be in for a treat.
Loukanikou, a fresh grilled lamb sausage seasoned with citrus zest. A must have.
This was a seafood pasta destined for another table that looked really good.

Love your meticulous detail with being overly ostentatious. Looks like a easy-going laid-back atmosphere without dress-up histrionics. If you are ever in Baltimore, MD, please check out these Greek restaurants:

The Black Olive and Acropolis are particularly recommended.
Grilled octpus here is also very good. There are no desserts on the menu, but for dinner they make one or two pans of fabulous galactoboureka that they provide gratis until they run out.
