Tomato Day at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown

Next Sunday is Tomato day at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown. Rachel and I went last year to the event (see pictures above) and we learned an awful lot about our favorite fruit. But best of all, you get to taste all kinds of heirloom tomatoes. The event is run in cooperation with Slow Food of New Jersey.

Lovers of Lycopersicon esculentum, take note! We’ll be sampling numerous cultivars and learning from experts how to grow them and save their seeds. A variety of talks, walks and demonstrations are offered throughout the afternoon. Cooking demonstrations sponsored by Slow Food NJ will be presented for a small fee on a first-come basis. Slow Food NJ is a part of an international organization committed to celebrating and sustaining the agricultural and culinary traditions of people around the world. The New Jersey chapters work to connect earth-friendly farmers, food producers, and chefs with New Jersey palates by spreading awareness and nurturing appreciation of healthy, locally-grown food.
