NJ Dining: Mausam Indian Cuisine, Luce Eclectic-Italian and a Deep Fried Burger Video

I’ve eaten my fair share of Indian cuisine over the years – Northern, southern, British-style curry, you name it. But my latest dinner with Jason Perlow at Mausam Indian Cuisine Bar and Banquet in Secaucus taught me that India has more than good food – they’ve got good beer – damn good beer!

While I was in Secaucus eating Indian with Jason, Hot From The Kettle’s Elizabeth Starnes was visiting Luce in Caldwell.

Featuring an Italian-inspired menu, Luce serves up classic favorites with an eclectic spin. But don’t write them off as a staid bastion out of touch with other culinary inspirations.  In 2011, Luce brought a new chef to their kitchen, searching high and low for the best candidate to revamp and improve their menu and image.  They found the perfect fit in executive chef Steve Sarangese. Formerly of Babbo in New York City, and Vetri in Philadelphia, Sarangese brings an elevated and finely tuned style to the menu at Luce.

Over the weekend, Elizabeth also took a trip to Nutley’s Old Canal Inn where she observed the making of the deep-fried Death Seat Burger.  Did she survive?  Watch the video to find out.
