To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t expecting to find great food in Milton Keynes — at best, maybe we’d find a decent Fish and Chips place, or perhaps a workable pub. I wasn’t expecting to find world-class British cuisine, made with locally sourced organic ingredients. But that’s exactly what I found, on the reccomendation of one of my British colleagues.

I have just returned from The Black Horse in Great Linford and was very disappointed with the meal. The chicken was very tough and dry, the butternut squash pancake contained NO butternut squash and the green salad consisted of watercress (which had been sat under the hot plate and had wilted).

The limited menu was made even worse as the star attraction of fish and chips was off the menu (on a Friday night!!) and also the fishcakes had run out.

    Overall an expensive terrible experience.

I will not be eating there again!!

We too had adisappointment when we ate there recently. The disappointment was actually more in the attitude of the managaress who obviously is not well trained in customer service skills.
On the bar menu was a ‘house platter’ which offered “something of everything” from the 6 normal items.
When we complained that we didn’t in fact get several of the things mentioned, we were shrugged off with “that’s what we’ve always served and no one has complained before”. We also had been given one or two substituted items which, we pointed out, if we’d known were going to be included we wouldn’t have ordered because they were not things we liked.
We had a very long row and eventually she agreed to send me a letter voucher for the amount to exchange against a future meal – but this never arrived. We should never have had to argue so long and hard to make our point, nor should we have been made a promise she obviously did not intend to keep.

I think the pub and the food is alright! But be aware if you arrive in a narrow boat!We were 6 happy guys from Norway that moored here 2 years ago,we had a nice evening at the Black Horse, but when we go back to our boat, the Pearl,we had been robbed.Pass ports, suitcases, yes even my toilet purse. One of my friend only had his toothbruch left!!!!So beware!!!!!

Two of us went to the black horse for sunday lunch yesterday, it was our first visit there and i pointed that out to the barman, he was more than helpful, explaining the procedure of ordering, finding a table etc.
All the staff were friendly, helpful, courteous and the service was attentive but not overpowering.
We both had a superb meal, the beef was perfect and plenty of it. This establishment offered excellent value for money, even the drinks are reasonably priced, i will definately be eating there again!

We have just return from the black horse and are very disappointed, we were in fact discriminated by the staff. we were told that only bar food was available because we had not booked which was fine, But two minute later they offered a couple menu food, who also did not book, all because they new them. This is an absolute disgrace.
