Harry Olivieri, one of the two brothers who put Pat’s King of Steaks on the map, has died at the age of 90. Maria Olivieri, the daughter of Harry Olivieri, says her father was one of the two brothers who invented the steak sandwich in South Philadelphia.

  1. That’s a shame. I try to make a pilgrimage to Pat’s a few times a year. It’s a shrine. I remember the first time I ate one of their sandwiches it was middle of the winter, late and snow was falling around us and I thought, “this is nuts. Coming all this way for a sandwich,” but in retrospect, it makes perfect sense. R.I.P.

    I was station in Philadelphia in 74. My buddy took me there , and I have judge every Cheesesteak and none has beat that memory nor has any St. Paddy’s day party in a very narrow Pizza joint.
