In my earlier post about Pinkberry I talked about a new Asian-style of frozen yogurt which is now becoming popular in the United States, a kind which actually tastes like yogurt culture as opposed to soft-serve ice cream. It’s becoming so popular in fact that its not unusual to see hour-long lines at the various Pinkberry locations in NYC.Fortunately there is an alternative, and it is Yolato. A similar product, Yolato is also a soft-serve lactobacillus culture-flavored frozen yogurt which is also topped with fresh fruit. I find that its not quite as dense and custardy as Pinkberry’s product, but it is very, very similar. It’s maybe slightly sweeter than Pinkberry and not quite as tangy but still better than most frozen yogurt products out there.

Yolato also offers gelato, and is in partnership with the Piccomolo gelato chain as a franchise. Click here to read about the former Piccomolo location in NJ.

Tiramisu Gelato over Blueberry Sorbetto.

Yolato is topped with a selection of fresh fruit.

The NJ store offers a lounge area where you can watch TV, play board games, and use their WiFi Internet.

do you know if the Midtown Location is open yet?
I heard the midtown location is opening sometime in July.
I tried some at there shop on the UWS – it was a really poor consistency for a cone. I ordered the cookies n’ cream froyo – it melted in about five seconds.
You had the flavored Yogurt Gelato as opposed to the Pinkberry-type stuff?

Try Yogo Mango in Norwood on Livingston Ave.
If you like Yolato and Pinkberry, try Yum Yum cafe on Lawton and Anderson in Cliffside Park, NJ. It’s a neighborhood joint. However, you will like the in between Yolato and Pinkberry taste of their lowfat “plain” yogurt. They have many yogurts there so you have to be able to ask for the right one. They also have an amazing dense, dark green tea ice cream. It’s also much cheaper than Yolato or Pinkberry. Their yogurt tastes like Pinkberry in consistency..sorta icy but not tangy and not really sweet. It’s in the middle of them all.
TRY IT!!! The owners are just awesome people and you’ll see the neighborhood adults hanging out there!
